Introduction to Buddhism PDF Print E-mail

Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) brought Buddhism to Tibet.
This great master was an emanation of both Buddha Amitabha
and Sakyamuni. Here he is portrayed together with King Trisong
Detchen and Shantarakshita.

In deep respect to the Buddha, bodhisattvas, great masters and their lineage holders.

Buddhism has existed from the beginning of life. The essence of Buddhism is love and compassion. Buddha Sakyamuni is the fourth of the thousand Buddhas who will appear in this world during what is called the 'Fortunate Aeon'. His tradition has existed for more than 2,500 years. He has given eighty four thousand different teachings. All the methods lead to helping all sentient beings to happiness and free them from suffering. Please read the story of Buddha Sakyamuni.

Buddha Sakyamuni has taught three different levels of Buddhist teaching and practise.

In brief: "Avoid all negative actions, adopt all positive actions and train your mind through meditation." These are the Buddha's words.

If you would like to practise Buddhism, it is not enough to read books. It is not sufficient to get teachings. It is important to consult a teacher who does not only possess intellectual knowledge but has integrated Buddhism into his daily life. We should combine the teaching from a competent teacher with our faith, compassion, good motivation and regular practice.

Buddhism started in India and spread out to the entire world. I am a follower of the Buddhist teaching brought from India to Tibet. I pray that all sentient beings may be happy and be free of suffering and attain the Buddha state.
